Rockman X2: Soul Eraser

The second of portable glory. Rockman X2: Soul Eraser felt more in-tune with the rest of the series than the first GameBoy game did, like a more proper induction into the timeline rather than just a spin-off. Still, it’s pretty spin-offy. The good work of translating the X series to 8-bit remains and this could be considered better than the first “Xtreme” game overall. How do the scripts look, compared to the inconsistency of 1? We’ll see I guess!

You get the option of playing as both X and Zero in this one, and you have to in order to get the true ending. Therefore there is X’s story and Zero’s story scripts. The both of them share some cutscenes so I will not include those in the Zero story section, instead only having dialogues and scenes that are unique to him.

As usual, I try to keep it as close as I can to the original script, which does occur in a few difficult sentences. This is to compare it to the official English script. Anyway…

PROLOGUE 序章

Narrator: For some unknown reason, the programs of Reploids are suddenly erased. The Reploids stopped moving and almost seemed like they had become hollow shells. This phenomenon was named “ERASURE” and began to frighten the Reploids… “Laguz Island” in the Southern Ocean. Here is where the Reploid Research Lavatory is located. One day, the readings of Reploids had instantly vanished. A lot of Reploids were erased! What happened in this island…? Maverick Hunters, X and Zero received the orders and head into action!

Narrator: The programs of Reploids are suddenly disappearing. And, as if their “souls” had been pulled out, they are unable to move again and become cold, metal trash. Their souls wiped out, Reploids become junk. This phenomenon was deemed as “Erase”, and was feared.

Laguz Land, an island in the southern ocean housing a Reploid research facility. One day, suddenly the Reploid readings from Laguz Land vanish in an instant. A huge mass of Reploids had been Erased! What exactly happened on this island? Irregular Hunter X and Zero get the order to move out!

X Story

X: I have found some Reploids that are out of commission, and the others have become Mavericks.

Zero: Iris, we will begin to check the surrounding area. Can you offer us support?

Iris: Okay. But please don’t get too wild and bite off more than you can chew.

Zero: Don’t worry, Iris.

(X enters the first area)

Zero: Did you find anything, X?

X: Yes I found something! The island is filled with the Mavericks that I thought we had destroyed.

Zero: WHAT?! Did they come back by themselves, or is there someone behind their resurrection? We must find out.

X: I’ll go and check it out.

Zero: Okay. Let’s meet up again later.

(X enters a dark room)

X: What’s this place? Hm! The enemy is coming!

(Boss appears. X defeats it)

X: Are you alright, Zero?

Zero: There seems to be so many more enemies.

X: This is crazy! What is their purpose, anyway? I must find out!
