Hello, quick update: I am working on the X2 manga and am now onto editing + putting text in boxes for Vol.1. Took longer than I hoped, but not out of difficulty but due to work being pretty busy and priorities going elsewhere. However, it is going steady.
I am going to Japan on July 4 for about 2 1/2 weeks.
Yakuza 6 was announced for here, cool. I wanna do the lyrics still, and am looking for full versions of the songs to accompany lyrics. Not good pickin’s, so I might just put the lyrics up anyway and find the vids/songs later.
Quick update – I have been looking for a big project to do, and for now I think I have found something. From what I can see, there doesn’t seem to be any translations for some of the Rockman manga material. I would like to translate the Rockman X2 manga for all to enjoy. So I will be starting that soon and releasing it by volume. I will try to do it like normal manga translations by editing the text into the speech bubbles etc.
Also, I am working on the Rockman & Forte instruction booklet translation, and it is almost done. I would have it done tomorrow, but I must go on a business trip. It will be done later this week.
I was asked to also transcribe and translate the Gunvolt OVA. I do not mind transcribing the Japanese text and maybe translating it sometime, but for now, there are already a few subtitled versions out there that do a pretty good job.
So, yeah, see ya’ll when I got the R&F thing done.
This is the other piece I translated for the contest. This one I was not as happy with, but it was pretty challenging. The original Japanese piece had a lot of super long sentences that would just be ridiculous run-off sentences if put in English. However, they reflected the main character’s neurotic-ism(?) through that sort of writing style, so I wanted to preserve it somewhat. It turned out alright, though! The original is HERE.
Anyway, here is another silly story (apparently it’s an essay) from Japan. Please excuse any weird formatting stuff; copying from Word has unpredictable results.
Recently I participated in a translation contest where I had to translate two works for submission. One was a short story by Yoko Ogawa called Tear Seller/涙売り. It is a weird story. But I did it! I would’ve liked a couple more edits, but the deadline came fast.
Anyway, here it is, a Japanese short story! For those looking for the original (for Japanese practice or whatever) it can be found on the contest’s site HERE.
New PV released for Yakuza 0: The Promised Place recently.
I made a comment on the vid, but I’ll just put it here too.
Kiryu opening dialogue (rough?) translation:
“When you’ve been walking down a dark path for a long time…you feel it’ll forever be dark ahead of you as well…
You grow to despise moving forward.
There isn’t a single person who knows what lies ahead on their own path.
What I can do is either just stop here and weep…or move forward, even if it’s only by a single step. Those are my only two options.”
The pop-up texts are roughly so:
1988, Eve of the Heisei Era
The Era where Justice
was Staying True to your Desires
For the People of the Underground Society looking to Get Rich Quick
There are No Rules
And
For the Men Living Against this Era
Their Make-believe “Joyous” Era
Will Bare its Fangs of Madness
The Deeds of the Denizens of the Black World
Will Produce an Intense, Sad Fate
An Intertwining Fate…
However
Everything will be Guided
To the Promised Place
If You’re a Man
Don’t Ever Stop
To Live is to Never Run Away
In Good Time
From that Deep Darkness
The Legend of the “Dragon” Will Be Born
From what can be gathered from the thing, there is a traitor in the Toujou clan (when isn’t there) that Kiryu is part of. He himself seems to be betrayed by his own friend who says he “has no choice”. Dudes are also searching for Kiryu (when aren’t they). Majima was supposed to kill a dame (the short-haired one) but ended up not going through with it, instead helping to hide her and gets in trouble for it, thus his fight. As usual, they will all intertwine together for some huge plot probably. I recognize some actors lending their likeness to it, which is neato I guess. I’m hype.
Been a lotta Rockman stuff and not a lot of Yakuza 5 stuff going on around here and it’s gonna CONTINUE for a bit. The reason is because my PS3 died on me about a month back and I am still waiting on being able to get my data from it etc. Therefore, can’t play Yakuza 5! Hard to get motivated when I can’t even play it.
Also, while still puny, the Rockman stuff actually gets some viewers?! Probs nobody is reading those Yakuza guides and you can probably find them elsewhere. Plus translation scripts and stuff is a lot more fun than just regurgitating guides! So there’s that, too. We’ll see how the shiz goes from here. I also wanna start digging into my PS1 JPN game collection and write about that nonsense hahaaaa help us all.
That’s me. That’s me being burned by finals. It’s not actually that bad (I will probably ace ’em all hahaaaa), but it certainly dampers my time to to practice translations! The free time I do have I use to actually play Ryu ga Gotoku 5 since I’m still not done it. But totally not dead (those zero people who care) and will be putting up another guide soon.
