Earlier this year the minds behind one of the most manly and greatest game series in history, Ryu ga Gotoku / Yakuza, released their take on on of the most manly and greatest pieces of entertainment in history: Hokuto no Ken / Fist of the North Star. It was going to be the most perfect combo ever since Silent Hills (RIK (Rest in Konami)). So, I got my hands on it and dived right into the world of martial arts ruling the apocalypse, men shedding tears for men, and shredded muscles around every corner.
The end result was pretty much just Yakuza-lite with a Hokuto face.
Ryu ga Gotoku / Yakuza 6 is a dope game, there is no doubts about it. I don’t know if it’s even possible for this series not to bring the hype. What’s more, is that every game in the series continues to improve on the formula making each new game even better than the last, which is quite impressive and makes me dunk my soul to the devs every time a new one is announced. Zero turned out to be insane, so naturally, I was ready to party and get a taste of life as a god once the 6th game was announced and hearing that it was made purely for the PS4. Full power Kiryu preaching that violence isn’t the answer while also stomping everyone’s faces in?! Count me in!
Unfortunately, part 6 breaks the pattern – it is not better than Zero.
With Yakuza 5, Zero, and who knows – possibly 6? – getting localized, I felt like returning to the one “Yakuza” game I plat’d: Ryuu ga Gotoku: Ishin!. Because while the previously listed Yakuzas found a miracle, it is unlikely for now that Ishin! will be localized, just like how Kenzan! wasn’t. So here is the quick jist about this game.
